The Keppel Explorer is not classed as a thrill ride, however given the nature of the vessel, seating and boarding is only suitable for children who can support themselves during wave manoeuvring, and seniors or adults who are able to board and disembark via our 4 step ladder often. The nature of this tour is based around adventure and seclusion so the group is often far away from any amenities and some activities will test fitness and endurance.
Our boat is suitable for most ages (weather permitting) except guests with back/neck/hip pain or spinal injuries or who are pregnant. The seats are jockey style so there is some downward pressure when coming down from waves, which is dictated by the wind strength. Weight can be an issue here, as well as pulling yourself out of the water and back into the boat after snorkelling. The tour is not ideal for young child so we require they must be able to support themselves during wave maneuvering generally 5+.
You will be exposed to the elements so we ask that you bring the following in a small bag as deck space is limited (see below for details):
Optional:
Lunch is provided but bring snacks if required. Waterproof cameras such as GoPro’s are ideal but we also recommend to buy a waterproof holder for you smartphone because it’s probably going to get wet! Depending on weather conditions, there will be a small amount of spray fluctuating to a complete soaking however we do provide super dry marine jackets to keep you warm and dry. Bare feet is preferred for the boat as thongs/flip flops are a tripping hazard but they are highly recommended to bring in order to walk on some parts of the islands where the sand is hot in Summer or there may be thorns in the grass. We also provide wetsuit tops and thermals for snorkelling in Winter but if you have your own wetsuit or snorkelling gear then best to bring it.
Due to the open-style design and speed which our vessels travel, it is very rare for Keppel Explorers to experience sea sickness on board, unlike slower vessels where you experience a slow-rocking motion that can cause sea sickness. The most common time for passengers to ever feel nauseous on the water would be when the vessel has stopped. We encourage anyone that is prone or worried about seasickness to take any necessary medication prior to travelling.
Your tour will include the following free of charge:
1. Snorkelling gear – mask, snorkel, fins.
2. Wetsuit tops & shorts for snorkelling.
3. Super Dry Marine Jackets.
4. Pool noodles.
5. Bathiscopes for non-swimmers to see the reef below.
6. Healthy lunch pack – ham & salad wrap, roasted almonds & apricots, blueberries & strawberries, energy bliss ball and apple. All dietary requirements are catered for which can be specified during the booking process.
7. Government Marine Park Fee of $6, Credit card fees and GST are also included in the advertised price.
Between stops the journey will be anywhere from 10 – 20 minutes, depending on where the skipper chooses next, given conditions on the day. We always try to balance the time on the boat with as much time exploring the islands and underwater world.

Nope, lucky for you we are au naturel on this tour! There’s not many things worse at sea then using a porta loo in a tiny confined space so we’ve saved you the nauseating experience and either use natures facilities or the toilets provided on Humpy and/or GKI. If you calculate it out, use the toilet as we leave the marina, once on Humpy, once on GKI and again upon return – that is 4 toilet breaks within 5 hrs 🙂
Absolutely! Our lunches are made with love from the award winning Waterline restaurant at the Marina who are able to cater to any and all dietary requirements. There will be a section within the booking process where you can enter these details for each guest.
Easy, simply send a text message to 0477 848 848 and we’ll change that once we’re back in the office and resend your confirmation. Please note there is of course no change fee to change your booking up to 48hrs prior to departure, however, changes requested within 48hrs are only possible if we can resell your seats prior to departure, else the date change will incur a 50% charge.
